Common Running Injuries and Their Treatment with Erica Hellmuth, MPT

Monday February 20th at the APEX Center Party Room (downstairs) 6:00 pm.

Our guest speaker for the February meeting is Erica Hellmuth, MPT from Altitude Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine. She will be discussing common running injuries seen at her clinic including patellofemoral disorder and achilles tendinitis/plantar fasciitis.
Wear comfortable stretchy clothes as we may go through a few exercises.

Erica has a Masters of Physical Therapy and her experience includes inpatient and outpatient settings with an emphasis on return to sports, pediatrics and orthopedics. She is also certified in functional dry needling.
When not at work, she is busy keeping up with her children and recreational skiing, mountain biking, traveling and dragging her husband on a run or a bike ride. She has participated in 5 half and 3 full marathons and enjoys strengthening, yoga and pilates.

Introduction to Yoga

Be prepared to stretch a little and learn some yoga tips and mobility techniques that can help you during training season as well as recovery from a race. If you have a mat, bring it along!

Wear comfortable stretchy clothes so we can go through a few poses and exercises.

Suzanne Hauserman, owner of Flow yoga studio in Arvada, has been a yoga teacher in the area for over eight years. She is also a mobility instructor, and Rolfer specializing in alignment and yoga for active athletes of all sports.  When not in yoga, she loves to spend time at CrossFit, and train for the occasional triathlon or race.

The first hour of the  clinic will be on basic maintenance and tune ups.

The second hour of the clinic the Bicycle Shack will check out your bike and do minor tune ups at no charge.  This portion of the clinic will be on a first come first served basis as time allows.

Kick off for our Thursday evening Bike Ride for the 2016 season. May 5th 6:00 pm

This will be an easy no drop ride about one hour to start the season. Based on how many show up, different abilities and interests we will develop Thursday evening rides going forward.

Meet in the Moore Middle School parking lot, 8455 W 88th Ave, Arvada just west of Wadsworth on the north side of the street.
